In 2024, Kim Sung-yong, artistic director of the Korea National Contemporary Dance Company, presented the new work In it, the first piece in the DMAU (Dance Makes Asia become the Universe) project, with the ambition of expanding dance exchange across Asia and taking a leading role in contemporary dance worldwide. We take a closer look at artistic director Kim Sung-yong’s philosophy of dance, through which he sought to express the paradoxical keywords “complexity within simplicity,” “depth within repetition,” and “the coexistence of the unconscious and the conscious.”
