Director’s Note

Some say they love the mountain with age. Probably I have not grown up enough yet because I still love the sea. When I write and erase thoughts in my head by myself as many as the number of waves breaking differently every time, thoughts are gone and the only things left are the sounds of “splashes” and “myself watching them.” And this is my favorite moment.

Seeing Ji Kyungmin’s beautiful choreographic work to work on the dance film, I ironically thought that this choreography should not be something that leaves a lasting impression on the minds of the viewers. My interpretation of waves as a director is not an especially memorable wave, but a “memory” that I was there in the middle of countless splashing waves.

The film is full of attractions, including splashes of awkward acting by Shin Dong and those of beautiful movements created by the choreography team. But I hope the only thing lingering in your mind will be the “waves.”
