Description

Simple sentences and punctuation marks in In the Land of Punctuation include stories with various implications. What they imply are sometimes playful and sometimes threatening. Punctuations brought into video became freer and more intuitive characters with roles. Grotesque-looking dancers in a similar but different costume seem to play, but they pass through the world of thoughts and feelings in groups and individuals and that of order and disorder. The movements of expressionless dancers become music, punctuation marks or myself in a group in the middle of emphasis and repetition. Punctuations not only refer to a pause, suspension, stepping aside and stop, but also indicate emotions with intention and intonation. If we see the punctuation marks by chapter in terms of text and emotions that we are well aware of, even though they look like an emotionless group when moving altogether, we may give a sad smile to the innocent punctuations at the end of the video.

* In the Land of Punctuation, premiered by the Korea National Contemporary Dance Company in 2021, will return to the stage in front of an audience in May 2022.
